Intercession without the Spirit of Prophecy is like Man trying to steer the ship of Christianity without a rudder. The directions will be Man-determined and not God-directed. Men and women will discover their hearts but not God’s heart. God's heart is full of compassion. Compassion is felt by men and women and expressed not just in their prayers, but through words and deeds.
To couple intercession with God’s direction, Man must understand the nature of prophecy; it is “in part”, and unless a man is comfortable with God holding the rest of the “parts” he will meddle in what has been revealed and exploit it for his own use. His intercession will be a “feel good” prayer with the fruit of “look what I’ve accomplished”.
God wants to bring His intercessors into His confidences. He wants to share His heart with them. Yet they need to be mature enough to receive this sharing for God’s purposes, and not for their own. There is a whole culture of intercessors who tuck themselves away to pray and make war, yet shrink away from speaking a word to effect change amongst those they pray for. They feel the power of the Spirit in prayer, and do not minister the Spirit amongst the brethren.
I, Jesus, took on the Word in my flesh. You must do the same. When I give you My words you must go far beyond prayer with them; you must live them. Your fruit will be in what you say and do, and not in what you pray alone. I am coming for a Bride clothed in the righteous deeds of the saints, not the righteous prayers of the saints.
I do not discount the great value of prayer. Only, having been tempted in all manner and still having overcome the flesh, the world, and sin, I counsel you on the motives of your hearts. Is it not easier to keep your distance from problems by being tucked away in your prayer closet? Is it not easier to imagine your prayers effecting a change in those problems, instead of Me using you to be a part of that change? Isn’t it easier to see all your efforts at forceful prayer as coming from a righteous and self-sacrificing heart, instead of being tested as you confront your problems, having laid your life down as a sacrifice to Me?
I loved my prayer times with My Father. But I bore with all manner of weaknesses, failings, and sins of men in order to see those men redeemed. My trust was in the Father and what He could do with my living sacrifice. I knew that the Words clothed in the flesh of my body were powerful, more powerful than any weapon of the enemy. I lived My Father’s will so as to defeat satan. I have overcome him. You cannot avoid facing your problems and your enemy by tucking yourselves away in intercession. Rather, let the words I speak to you and the prayers you pray be the impetus for the life you live amongst Mankind. Amen.
