The previous concept was holiness. We are to have holy
lives, placed on the altar in surrender to the Lord. I wrote about wrongful
offerings, called strange fire. But to the overcomer authority was given. Today
I will continue with this lesson, and write about the second reward for
holiness; the Morning Star.
The morning star is the Spirit of Prophecy. It is that coveted voice of God within our own spirit which leads and counsels us. As a servant of God, Lucifer once had the privilege of hearing God’s voice. He was called the “morning star” (Is 14:12). Because he sought to exalt himself above God, he was cast down. His self-exaltation is what we know as self-determination. Lucifer no longer hears God’s words. However, there is One who is the “bright Morning Star;” Jesus (Rev 22:16). He is the Word of God in the flesh, and in the Spirit.
Prophecy is a “light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” (2 Pet 1:19). The Son of God appears at the end of the darkness, dawn, and brings understanding to our minds through the Spirit of Prophecy. This understanding does not come at will, nor in the same instant we seek after it. Understanding from the Spirit is a process.
Isaiah writes about the process of hearing from God, and receiving His light. “Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. But now, all you who light fires and provide yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of your fires and of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from my hand: you will lie down in torment.” (Is 50:10-11).
The first step in gaining understanding is to “fear the Lord and obey”. Then, we must wait in our darkness until He brings the dawn with His Son. His light of understanding comes by the Spirit of His Words, the Spirit of Prophecy, when it rises in our hearts.
God trains His servants in patient waiting. Those who seek out false teachers and false prophets will be encouraged to light their own torches in the dark, for they are hasty. These pupils will be taught that prophecies are instant and revelation resides within them. But the Spirit of Prophecy does not come in an instant, and the Spirit of Revelation is not their servant. Rather, we are the Lord’s servant, and holiness keeps us while we wait for the dawning of His light. Amen.
