The Superiority of God

If you have watched the movie “Noah” you may have noticed that there are more than a few deviations from the Bible account of this righteous man, Noah, and his mission to build an ark of safety for the coming flood.  However, Noah’s enemy Tubal-Cain, a descendant of Cain, tells Noah’s son Ham something that we should recognize as the belief system of our fleshly nature.  Tubal-Cain states that men are like God.  The truth is, only God is like God, and His ways are far above the ways of Man. Today’s post is dedicated to the superiority of God’s nature, and though far from complete, is what I know to be true about Him.

God will sacrifice happiness for integrity and purity of heart, just so that we can have a heart like His.  God will turn our world upside down so that, when He rights it, things fall into their God-given place.  God can use the man that satan used, turning his stony heart into a heart of flesh.  And that man will love you more than a brother in the end.

God will choose the schools that train us, whether they mold our minds or humble our hearts.  God will set us over others to shepherd them in order to teach us how to care.  He will give us problems too hard to solve so that we will seek Him for wisdom.  He will give us choices too hard to make so that we learn to follow His lead.  He will allow us to suffer consequences so that we do not suffer judgment. And He will bring the pain of disappointment so that we will trust Him and choose to know His heart in the matter.

God will let things get harder before they get easier in order that He might honor the decision we make daily to follow Him.  Our decision is that valuable to God, so much so that He wants us to know the price of our calling in Him.

God’s heart delights to put markers on our paths so that we will delight in discovering His way.  He yearns to spend time with us, even if we are unhappy with Him.  He is ever ready to reason with us, wooing us to the thoughts that come from His holy heart.  Though His plans for us are good, God doesn’t expect us to see the hurt, detours and obstacles as good.  Instead, He invites us to sit with Him and talk about our day, offering comfort, direction, and the power of endurance.

God knows that when we love someone that does not love us back, we are the most powerful force in that person’s life on earth.  He sees this as one of our highest callings because of the power to save the soul of the other.  Our ability to act on God’s behalf is in direct proportion to our love for others, therefore God will bring the unlovable to us.  In this we share God’s hope; that the unloved will become loving, and that our love will not die.  It is a privilege to share in God’s hope for another.

Are we like God? No man could think like Him, nor love as He loves.  Let us celebrate God’s nature in our lives today, and always.  Amen.
