God will finish what He has begun

Last night I was praying for a building project my husband and I have begun.  Sadly, my requests were based on my worries. Although we know our project is God’s will, I had been focusing on the limitation of what we could finish.  Then a scripture came to mind;

“. . . being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Phil 1:6)

God will finish what He has begun.  That is His nature.  He works in us to become what we are predestined to be and also to do what we are ordained to do. Our building project is something that God intends to see us finish.

Because of our trials, we may think that God is only interested in our souls and testing us. After all, the faith in our hearts is to come forth as gold, refined in the fire (1 Pet 1:7).  Although we may pray for healing, jobs, and relationships . . . we may not think that things pertaining to this life are important to God. This line of thinking does not take in the bigger picture; God wants to include us in His Kingdom’s life and work and has His mind on our purpose and well-being.

We see the beauty of the earth and the marvel of the animals God created to share our lives with.  It begs the question, “Why would God only be interested in our salvation?” The earth itself testifies of God that He is good, but sometimes we think God has an ulterior motive.  Instead of enjoying the moments we share together in this life, we try to second-guess why we have His goodness. Then we become motivated to say and do things that will look good to God. Once we are full of these pretenses, God’s goodness seems dependent on our actions. Instead of praying in faith for our building project to be completed, I started thinking of what I could do to get God to do His job!

Last night the Lord said, “If men only knew how open and honest I am, they would be glad to share their time with Me.  Instead, many who call themselves by My name live apart from Me.  Though they know I require them to have integrity in their hearts, they think I do not.”

“My greatest joy is being with those who love Me and want to know Me.  When all men’s motives are dropped, then we can fellowship.  It is written that the streets in My City are paved with gold that is transparent (Rev 21:21).  The value of a heart of faith is seen when men drop their motives and are transparent with both God and men.”

Yes, God will finish the good work of salvation He has begun in us.  But He will also bring to pass every promise He has given us for this life. God works alongside of us on this earth and will reward us for seeking Him out (Heb 11:6) so that we might know Him and His goodness.

Our prayers should continue to hold up the things of this life for God’s touch.  Our faith needs to become transparent, without second-guessing God or putting on behavior to appear good.  Faith in God, and that He will finish what He has begun, will put our hearts in a restful position with God, and our fellowship will be blessed.  Also, God will finish what He has begun.  Amen.
