The Lesson

Yesterday my husband and I watched a movie whose story was to have taken place centuries ago.  It had a battle in it. Afterwards I reflected to the Lord that, in the “olden days” it seemed easier to tell who the enemy was and what was necessary to win a battle. Because the Bible tells us that we do not battle against flesh and blood, there is no obvious person in front of us to deal with.  And because the Bible tells us that the weapons of our warfare are not of this world, both our enemy and our ammunition against him must be spiritual (See Eh 6:12 and 2 Cor 10:4).  I prayed to know how to win the spiritual battles that seemed to tumble into my life unbeckoned.

Today I visited my son and his family.  During the drive home the Lord spoke to me about how my enemy was “put down” because of my visit. I was surprised because my relationship with my family is very good and there were no battles. But God was about to answer my prayer about winning battles by giving me a lesson.  Here is what the Lord showed me:

  • ·        I listened to and talked with my 12 year-old grandson.  Now he knows he can talk with me.

  • ·        I listened to showed an interest in my daughter-in-law when she talked about her sister.  Now she knows that I care about whom she cares about and will include her sister as part of our family.

  • ·        I played with my 6 year-old granddaughter, and did a craft project with her.  Now she knows that I will give her my time, and important part of love.

  • ·        With my son, I shared about a financial blessing that my husband and I received after much long prayer. There will come a time when he also will need financial blessing, and now he knows that it may come through an individual whom the Lord prompts to bless him . . . he just needs to pray and trust.

It turned out that the weapons of my warfare had more to do with staving off future bad outcomes than dealing with anything current. This lesson taught me something important about the weapons of my spiritual warfare.  My ammunition was listening, sharing, and giving my time, which will secure the defeat of satan’s plans concerning my son and his family.

Though I only learned about three types of weapons, and I certainly may need more in the future, for today I rejoice in the victories that are secured.  Amen.
