This is the day of “recommendations.” We are received in ministry if we are
recommended. Our references go before
us. But for those of you who are
starting anew, who will receive your ministry?
Today the Lord brought a father of faith to mind; Abraham. The Lord wanted to do something new for
humanity. He wanted to establish a people
of His own, and inheritance of men and women who followed Him into the Promised
Land. The Lord called Terah to leave his
people. He took his family. His son was Abram, whom the Lord later called
Abraham. Although Terah did not finish
the journey to the Promised Land, Abraham continued until he arrived there with
his family.
When God wants to do something new, does he need the
references and recommendations of men?
This may seem like a silly question, but most the time we hesitate to
venture out into what God has promised us because we do not have the
encouragement, and are not received by our brethren. They may want you to teach
Sunday School, but not lead Intercessory Prayer. Perhaps it’s OK for you to usher, and take
the offerings on Sunday, but you cannot have a prophetic ministry.
Be encouraged. If God
has called you, His calling is irrevocable (Rm 11:29). He will put you where you can be trained, and
bring circumstances to test that training to make sure you will not waver. Do not be reluctant to venture into new areas
untraveled by famous heads of ministry.
Be an Abraham that establishes the new thing the Lord is doing so that
others may follow. Amen.
