People who have heart-breaking experiences are changed by
them. Some become bitter, hard and cold
in their hearts, while others become compassionate, caring and warm. Though our human nature wants to protect
ourselves from hurt, God’s nature in us wants to love again.
Our Lord puts every hurt, heart-broken person in a place to
love others. Love protects our hearts,
but withdrawing from others does not; love and forgiveness, not building a mote
around us to insulate ourselves from hurt and disappointment.
We can let God bring people into our lives who need us, or
we can despise their needs and the invitation to love that comes with them. The
worldly are growing cold in their hearts. It’s satan’s plan to turn the
believer’s heart into a block of ice too.
The more he hurdles pain at us, the more we can withdraw from others . .
. or, we can love them. In the end we will find that loving others has kept our
heart warm, our life vibrant, and our mind full of purpose. That’s true protection.
